I have a G4 tower I'm in the middle of upgrading. It's never had a problem, except in having OSX resident with OS9. TO get that to work, I had to wipe it and install OSX, then no problems. Now, I've boosted the ram to 2 gig, and I was about to install a chip upgrade to a 1.6 gHz. The chip upgrade required a firmware upgrade, firmware that was only done in OS9. Tedious, but no prob. The firmware says it's in fine, but now, OSX fails. When I run disk utilities, it says the HD is unmountable. This also corrupts whatever OS was working and I have drop all the way back to OS9.1 re-update back to 9.2.2.

To say that this is annoying is an understatement after 6 attempts. Should I:
1. reinstall the firmware-just in case it's not correct & how do I do that?
2. Dig up the old firmware, attempt to get OS 9 & OSX to live in harmony so I can cold boot in 9 an install the firmware update?
3. Stare angrily at the open boxes of stuff to be installed and drink, ruining my liver and not getting anything done?
