Poor scrolling on Word (new to mac)

Hello,
I am excited to be converting from PC, but as someone whose working life is deeply dependent on my computer (whose isn't?) it is a difficult leap. The most pressing issue is that on certain Word files, the scrolling is terrible. It is jerkey and gets stuck. This is true whether I use the scroll arrows or my touch pad. The computer (which is new and powerful) scrolls beautifully in general.
